“Guns for the Common Good”
An Armed Society is a Polite Society. Gun owners, in contrast, take the responsibility of owning, and where legal, carrying a gun very seriously although, owning and carrying a gun is an overwhelming responsibility. That is the reason when concealed carry laws pass there isn’t a huge increase in rage crimes or spree killings with guns.
The following things are required for responsible gun ownership.First, an honest trust of our citizens and solid desire to allow them to go armed if they so choose. Second, the self-control to handle situations while armed that don’t require the use of deadly force without bringing into mass chaos. The same reasons explain the basic and truthful statement that an armed society is a polite society.
Self-defense is a human right. Enduring the law, citizens should avoid using deadly force to protect themselves, their families and their businesses, unless they have no other option to avoid death or risk of serious injury. Remember that you’re firing only to stop an attack. If the person dies as a result of you doing your best to stop his attack, that’s his problem, not yours. If our lives are endangered by plots, violence, armed robbers, or enemies, any and every way of doing something of protecting ourselves is morally right.
“The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights that protects the rights of the people to keep and bear arms.” -(Previous Blog Post) Guns save lives because it is possible that guns save more lives than they cost. Gun can sometimes prevent crime and perhaps even save a victim’s life. “Criminals are less likely to attack someone that they believe might be armed.” -(Previous Blog Post) A person may feel safer being armed with a handgun and feel free to go out to anywhere, even when near any dangerous areas.
People need protection from harm. They also need protection of property and family. Guns are not bad to have. Some guns go through their entire life being shot only at targets, and never at a person or thing. It really just depends on the person behind them. A good person behind a gun will protect his/her family and that will be with the gun. A bad person will use a gun for revenge or other crimes. If a child is under ten-seeing and getting hold of a gun while no adults are supervising- that child could immediately kill himself/herself. While there are some who should not be trusted with guns, there are others that absolutely need them.
The 2nd Amendment did not get into the “Bill of Rights” by accident. It was put there to give the people the final say in our government’s system. We certainly wish that no children should have guns. Children on’t know the use of it but finding out how while holding a gun, is critical and determined. I suggest hiding the gun at higher places or somewhere to lock it up. Take “Responsibility” for your life, liberty, and happiness, go buy a “GUN”. Protection is needed; this is why our society has guns to help keep the U.S clean without chaos.

ReplyDeleteVery nice editorial! I feel that your plan and opinion could possibly work, but what if we look at this scenario from a Hobbes Perspective? Misuse of guns happens everyday, because a person's true personality and ethics isn't full-proof; there are always accidents. If people were allowed to freely carry guns in public, they could be used as an excuse to "quickly" and "efficiently" take care of an issue or debate. We would have to be taught at a very young age and almost programmed to deal with issues in a calm and healthy way, and to not resort to the violent weapons that we have been given the legal right to wield.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the editorial. I agree that guns are sometimes a good thing and that they are needed in some situations. I also agree that people should take owning guns very seriously, and that they should know their power. I do not, however, I agree that everyone should have a gun. I think that their should be heavy background checks on people looking to buy guns and that their should be more restrictions on who can get them. I believe that this will help keep guns out of the wrong hands. I think you're right that children should be taught from a young age about the dangers and powers of guns. Nice Job.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that gun owners need to take guns seriously and understand their place of power in the society. I do not believe though that everyone should carry around a gun. Guns are extremely dangerous, and you can never know when a person can snap. Basically in my opinion when you hold a gun, you’re holding everyone around your person’s life in your hand, and that is way too much power for one to handle. I agree with Hans above that everyone should get deep background checks to be able to carry a gun, but this only needs to be done if they were to carry it in public, but i believe that in homes, with proper training it is perfectly fine to own a gun and keep it locked up or away from children. This is just to protect your home and family and is a last ditch effort to maybe saving them from a dangerous scenario. With that said, great post Marshall!
